The Palace, situated 30 km from St. Petersburg, built by the architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, and celebrating the god Neptune, is both an architectural and historical masterpiece. The summer residence of the Czar, but above all, a symbol of Russia's accession to the rank of a great European maritime power, Peterhof Palace aimed to spread Russian art and culture throughout Europe. Intended as a "Russian Versailles", the palace of Peter the Great was built on the banks of the Baltic, and connected to the Gulf of Finland by a long canal in order to celebrate the Russian victory over the Kingdom of Sweden. On more than three kilometers of coastline, the Peterhof Palace offers visitors the magnificence of its architecture, and its gardens whose fountains are one of the greatest sights to behold.
Your guide will help you discover the treasures of this Imperial residence, and relate interesting stories of the palace and the czars who resided there. You will start your visit at the Upper Garden and discover the superb Neptune Fountain and the palace’s chapel.
